The Scholar-in-Residence is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on the basis of outstanding leadership in education, in addition to exemplary teaching and scholarship in his/her field.  The role of the Director of the EdD program is to supervise and coordinate the academic administration and governance of the EdD program, serve as the point of contact for EdD students enrolled in the program and work with internal and external partners to develop and deliver an interdisciplinary approach to applied research in educational leadership.  The Scholar-in-Residence teaches up to three courses per academic year and support EdD students as a committee member, as invited, for dissertation projects.  The Scholar-in-Residence and EdD director reports to the Director of the School of Leadership and Professional Studies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Scholar-in-Residence/EdD Director are assigned by the Director of the School of Leadership and Professional Studies and include, but are not limited to:

• Continued development, implementation, and daily operations of the EdD program;
• Organization, development and oversight of the EdD core curriculum;
• Organization of the doctoral program benchmarks (candidacy, qualifying examinations, proposal, and final defenses);
• Oversight of program experiences and comprehensive exams
• Planning of course offerings matrix and semester schedules;
• Policy development;
• Oversight of quality dissertation scholarship;
• Recruitment of doctoral students;
• Teaching doctoral-level courses;
• Building relationships internal and external to the college and university;
• Representation of the program within and outside of the college and university;
• Responsible for doctoral program SACSCOC assessment plan and other authentic assessments of the program; 
• Collaboration with other colleges, departments and programs as needed; and,
• Other duties as assigned.

The Scholar-in-Residence/EdD Director works closely with the Director of the School of Leadership and Professional Studies and the EdD Program Manager.

Supervision

The Scholar-in-Residence/EdD Director receives administrative supervision from the Director of the School of Leadership and Professional Studies and may exercise supervision of graduate assistants or student workers.

• PhD from an accredited university in Educational Leadership or a closely related field that meets the requirements for faculty status in one of the academic programs housed in the School of Leadership and Professional Studies;
• Leadership experience in an educational, non-profit, or public organization;
• Administrative experience in an educational, non-profit, or public organization;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, build relationships with a wide variety of partners and constituents, and recruit a diverse student cadre;
• Demonstrated understanding of academic culture, policies and procedures;
• Demonstrated experience with residential, hybrid and online teaching using contemporary, computer-based educational delivery systems and familiarity with distance learning trends and best practices;
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence through teaching, scholarship, and service; and,
• Demonstrated experience as an effective academic adviser and student mentor.
