Western Kentucky University, Intramural-Recreational Sports Department, is seeking applicants for a part-time Fitness Instructor position. This position will work one on one, with multiple clients, or in a group fitness setting either in the Preston Health & Activity Center Fitness Center, Health & Fitness Lab, or Dance Studio. The main focus of the Fitness instructor is to lead clients and participants in a safe, effective, and engaging exercise routine.
When leading small group or personal training sessions, the Fitness Instructor is to set up realistic short term and long term goals and create an appropriate exercise program. They will work with clients in training sessions with the purpose of helping them achieve improvement in cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility; as well as to monitor and record progress. During group fitness classes, the Fitness Instructor is to demonstrate proper form, give safety cues, and communicate effectively with participants.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Ability to effectively communicate with Fitness Coordinator and clients
Manage scheduling sessions, paperwork and all other items to track sessions
Arrives 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled session or class
Be available before and after sessions to answer questions
Ensures the safety of all clients/ participants by using proper form, technique and modifications
Familiar with departmental policies and procedures
Wears appropriate Personal Trainer or Group X uniform while training
Maintains and keeps up to date on all certifications
Possess a National Certification through an accredited recognized professional organization devoted to fitness and related areas, such as ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, CSCS or obtain within 60 days of hire
Six months of personal training or group fitness experience
Interpersonal and communication skills:
Ability to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire
Ability to maintain all National Certifications by earning the correct amount of continuing education credits (CEC's)
Hourly Rate: $16.00
